What is DD 9999 2005? |
This is a draft document, which is currently out for consultation and will become a British Standard, probably in mid 2006. This British Standard will replace the BS5588 series and is for the design, construction and use of buildings from the drawing board until demolition. The main point of this document is to allocate a Risk Profile for every conceivable type and use of building. This Risk Profile can allow planners to e.g. extend travel distances, reduce the widths of doorways and corridors. This can only be achieved if structural and other Fire Engineering means allow it. This may conflict with Approved Document B in England & Wales and the Technical Standards in Scotland but it is envisaged that if a building is built or changed using DD9999 as a code of practice, part B of the Building Regulations and The Technical Standards will be satisfied. A new way of thinking for most people can also be found in this Document. That is business and property protection as well as life protection. It has been recognised that business continuity should be a major factor to be considered when designing buildings. This is done using Risk Assessments and utilising a time line against fire development. This would require a degree of knowledge in fire behaviour in given scenarios. For information on Technical Standards Scotland, go to Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations 2005 |

| What We Can Offer Your Business | |
We can assist planners in risk assessing at an early stage. There are not many companies qualified in quantified building, property and business continuity Risk Assessments. We are trained in Building Fire Performance Evaluation Methods and can be invaluable to designers, architects and planners. We also offer a one day seminar to train your staff in these methods See the training section for a price guide |
